David Beckham Trains with England
June 1, 2009 by Erin Balser
David Beckham spent yesterday afternoon training with the England national team. He was called up to join the roster for twenty-four players last week. David’s stint with AC Milan is over and he will be spending the next month with England preparing for the World Cup qualifying matches against Kazakhstan and Andorra.

The team practiced at the London Colney in St Albans, England. After playing with England, David will return to the Los Angeles Galaxy, where he will complete the MLS season. His future after that is up in the air, as he has an opt-out clause in his Galaxy contract that comes to fruition in November.

If David sees the field in either of these matches, they will be his 111th and 112th cap respectively. While he’s still a ways off of Peter Shilton’s all time record of 125 caps, it certainly looks like David is going to give Shilton a run for his money!

David Beckham Benched as Milan Defeats Lecce 2-0
April 6, 2009 by Erin Balser
David Beckham was benched for the first time since coming to AC Milan, as the team defeated Lecce in a very tight match. Both Ronaldinho and Filippo Inzaghi scored injury-time goals to make the final score 2-0.
David was most likely benched because of his time away from the team to play for England. Andriy Shevchenko, who had played for Ukraine on the weekend was taken out of the starting line-up, but eventually made it on the field as a sub.
Here’s a video with some highlights from the game:
Despite being on the bench, David was in good spirits, getting into the game and cheering on his team. David has always been one to put his team and the team’s needs ahead of his own, so I’m sure he understands the decision.

England’s next game will be against Kazakhstan in June. Maybe David will secure his 111th cap at that time!

David Beckham suited up and hit the training field with the rest of the England national squad yesterday. England has two upcoming matches - a friendly against Slovakia on March 28th and a World Cup qualifying match against Ukraine on April 1st.

If David plays in either of these matches, he will set a record for having the most caps by an outfield player and will be ranked number two on the all-time caps list.

David looked great on the field. He must be really excited for getting to play for England, as playing for them in the 2010 World Cup was a major reason he requested to stay with AC Milan.

David played the first half of the game, being relieved at half-time.
Here’s a video with some highlights from the game:
After the game, David expressed his desire to stay in Italy during the post-game press conference. Seeing as the Los Angeles Galaxy and AC Milan have reached a tentative agreement that tries to respect David’s wishes but remain fair to the interests of all the parties, it looks like David will get his wish.
AC Milan Defeats Cagliari 1-0
February 23, 2009 by Erin Balser
Last night, David Beckham and AC Milan defeated Cagliari 1-0 in an important Serie A match. The game was a tough, well-fought game that didn’t let up until Clarence Seedorf scored the lone goal of the game in the 65th minute.

David saw a return to form as he rejoined the starting lineup. He played nearly the entire game, and was only subbed out in the last few minutes. He wasn’t in top shape, but it’s good to see his injury is only minor and won’t be holding him back.
Here is a video with highlights from the game:
Up next, AC Milan will rematch Werder Bremen at home, at San Siro stadium on Thursday, February 26th.
AC Milan Draw Against Werder Bremen
February 19, 2009 by Erin Balser
David Beckham and AC Milan played to a 1-1 draw last night in Germany, a UEFA Cup match. AC Milan played a tough game and the team was pleased with the effort, despite the disappointing outcome.

“We played a good game,” said the Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti. “We suffered, yes, but it’s normal to suffer in some games. However, it went well despite the fact that they’re a bigger team physically. The whole team played well, they fought for every ball, suffered together at the end.”
Here is a video of a few highlights from the game:
David did play in the game, despite speculation he would sit this one out after being injured in Milan’s derby match against Inter-Milan.
He came in off the bench for Ronaldinho for the final two minutes of the game. It’s not much, but it does show his inury is minor and he should have a full recovery soon.
David Beckham Gets Cap, England Loses
February 12, 2009 by Erin Balser
David Beckham received is 108th cap last night, when he came on the field as a second-half substitute. David and England put forth a great effort, but they couldn’t upset the European Champions. Spain walked away with a 2-0 victory.

David played very well and almost set a goal up for England when he made a spectacular defense-splitting pass to Carlton Cole, but they couldn’t make the conversion happen. David Villa and Fernando Llorente scored the two goals for England.

David received a booking for dissent late in the game, which is unfortunate. Here are some highlights from the match:
David’s next goal is to play for England in the 2010 World Cup. If he keeps up this level of play, there’s no reason that can’t happen. Another goal I’m sure he has his eye on his becoming the most capped player in England’s history. He needs to play in 16 more matches and receive 125 caps to match goalkeeper Peter Shilton
David Beckham Trains With England
February 10, 2009 by Erin Balser
David Beckham and the England squad trained at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in Seville today as they geared up for their friendly match against Spain tomorrow.
If David hits the field tomorrow, he will tie Bobby Moore’s record of 108 caps for an outfielder for the English squad.

David appeared to be really enjoying himself during the training session. The team worked hard, but they also enjoyed the experience of training and prepping to play a match for their country.

The match should prove to be a challenging one for Fabio Capello and his team, as Spain is the reigning European Champions. However, I think David and the rest of the England squad are up for the challenge.
Kickoff for the game is at 9pm (UK time) tomorrow!

David started his third game in a row, proving that AC Milan was smart to pick him up during the off-season. Not only is t strengthening David’s game, it’s helping Milan improve upon it’s current standing in Serie A. Right now, Milan sits in third place, but if they keep this level of play up, they should quickly rise in the ranks.
