David Beckham Awarded Damages from the Daily Star
June 24, 2009 by Erin Balser
David Beckham won his libel charge against the Daily Star for their false story about him hitting on Hungarian model Mariann Fogarasy at a party after an AC Milan match.
According to the report, David asked the model for her number, then repeatedly invited her to a “private party.” Express Group Newspapers, which owns the Daily Star, is expected to pay out the damages in the next few weeks. The Daily Star also issued an apology to David earlier this month.
The BBC is reporting that the damages awarded are “substantial.” The total award was not revealed, but I’m sure David is more pleased about having his name cleared and receiving an apology than about the cash.
This great news comes just as the family is getting back from their vacation in the French Riveria. Pop Sugar has photos of David, Victoria and their boys at the airport, getting ready to head home. I’m glad they enjoyed such a private, stress-free vacation together. While I’m glad they got some time away, I’m looking forward to seeing the family out and about again!
