David Beckham Planning Post-Football Future

December 2, 2008 by Erin Balser

David Beckham knows he can’t play football forever and is looking at planning his next career. The rumor is he’s interested in sports and entertainment financing and is already putting this plan in place with AEG and Galaxy owner Tim Leiweke.

LA GALAXY V FC DALLAS

Leiweke has promised David a boardroom job after retirement, if he so desires. The catch is that David is expected to be more than a figurehead and actually be involved in the ins-and-outs of the company, and this requires a crash course in sports financing. David has been taking a lot of talks with Tim and his daughter, Francesca, even taking her to a LA Lakers game earlier this month.

“He now has the high profile and celebrity status in America that Tim believes will attract further investors and raise public awareness of the company,” a source told The London News. “David will help AEG become a household name.”

Working with AEG would keep David in Los Angeles and involved in the Galaxy. I think it would be a great next step for him.

David Beckham Blogs About England Training, Galaxy

David also congratulats John Terry for being awarded the English captainship. As always, David is appreciative of the contributions others bring to his sport, and humbled by their excellence as he works beside them. David always impresses me with his class and grace when talking about teammates and competitors. You can tell he really loves soccer and everything about it.

LA Galaxy Draw Against New England Revolution

August 31, 2008 by Erin Balser

David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy played to a 2-2 draw against the New England Revolution last night, an outcome that was hard-fought and well deserved by the team.

Landon Donovan picked up both goals for the Galaxy, which were assisted by Peter Vagenas and Eddie Lewis, respectively.

“Everybody knows Landon is a great goal scorer,” David said to the press after the game. “It’s what he does. It’s what he’s done his whole career. It’s what he’ll carry on doing because he’s very talented. If you give him the ball in the right places, he’ll score 99 percent of the time. Tonight was a good night for him, because he had two chances and he put them both away.”

David also said he was really pleased with the team effort and that they are all looking forward to making a great play-off run!

Below is a video of some of the highlights from the game!

Pictures: David Beckham at SuperClasico

August 17, 2008 by Erin Balser

While David Beckham was disappointed with the level of play at the SuperClasico on Thursday, he came out fighting. David received a caution during the game for a reckless foul. He did make up for this indiscretion with an assist on the first goal to Chris Klein.

Below are some photos of David during the game and with the trophy. I know David wasn’t pleased–he felt they should have won 2-0 or 3-0–but it wasn’t a terrible outcome, considering it was the first game under the helm of Cobi Jones.

Video: LA Galaxy Fall 3-2 to San Jose Earthquakes

August 4, 2008 by Erin Balser

David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy couldn’t pull it together and walked away losing 3-2 to the San Jose Earthquakes. The Earthquakes scored their final goal in the last two minutes of the game, creating an upsetting and unexpected loss.

“It was disappointing to lose right at the end,” David said to reporters after the match, “but I think that what we can take from this game is that it was 100 percent better than last game. We showed some character and we fought back.”

The Galaxy have now lost or tied seven games in a row. That must be frustrating.

The Galaxy goals were scored by Landon Donovan and Eddie Buddle. David assisted Landon’s goal. The video below shows some of the highlights from the game!

Video: David Beckham Interviewed By Fox

July 18, 2008 by Erin Balser

David Beckham gave a a brief interview to Fox & Friends earlier this week. He chats about why he came to LA, how his family is adjusting, the future of soccer, his past injuries, and more. He’s hopeful about the future of soccer, yet realistic about the challenges that he and the MLS faces.

I love his purple sweater!!

David’s such a good interview, but I find people ask him the same questions over and over. What original questions would you like to see be asked?

Thanks to rocker94 for the tip!

David Beckham to Lead MLS All-Star Roster

July 12, 2008 by Erin Balser

David Beckham’s name is the one leading the All-Star roster when the MLS All-Stars play the British Club Ham United on July 24 in Toronto. David received the most fan votes in a system that weighted fan votes, player votes, coaches votes and management votes to determine who would make the team.

Joining David on the All-Star team is Galaxy teammate Landon Donovan, goalkeeper Matt Reis, New England’s Michael Parkhurst, Kansas City Wizards’ Jimmy Conrad, Columbus Crew’s Franie Hejduk, Chicago Fire’s Cuauhtemoc Blanco, New England’s Shalrie Joseph, CD Chivas USA’s Sacha Kljestan and Robbie Rogers of the Columbus Crew.

It should be a great game! i think it’s interesting that the MLS All-Star team comes together to play a team from a different league. In many other professional sports it’s East vs. West or National vs. American. I wonder if this will make the game more exciting. I certainly hope so!!

LA Galaxy and Chivas USA Play to Draw

July 11, 2008 by Erin Balser

The Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA played to a 1-1 draw last night in what looked like a really rough game. Each team received 17 fouls, but it could have easily been many more. Edson Buddle scored the lone goal for the Galaxy.

David Beckham was invovled in more than his fair share of scuffles.

“It’s always high emotions in derby games. Of course there’s going to be confrontations between players and tackles,” David said to reporters after the match. “That’s part of the game. There’s a line that you draw and don’t cross. Every player tonight was professional enough to do that.”

Below is a video, showing highlights from the game:
