David Beckham’s Return to AC Milan Not Final
June 14, 2009 by Erin Balser
It was nearly a given that David Beckham would be returning to AC Milan once the get-out clause in his Los Angeles Galaxy contract came up in November. However, that’s looking less likely to be the case. While David is committed to playing the highest caliber soccer he can in order to prepare for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, it may not be with the Italian club where David has most of the past year.
“It has not been finalised although Milan is one of the clubs that have shown an interest. I will definitely be coming back to Europe though because of the World Cup,” David told the UK’s Telegraph.
David assured the reporter that the upheaval isn’t anything to worry about. Regardless of where he ends up in November, David will be committed to the team he is on and to performing to the best of his ability.
While I don’t doubt this, it would be nice to see David have some consistency in his career. Stability betters team relationships which results in better soccer from everyone.
If he doesn’t return to Milan, I wonder where he will go. Rumors have sparked up about nearly every top tier club in Europe in the past few months.

David Beckham, England Defeat Andorra 6-0
June 11, 2009 by Erin Balser
It was another easy win for David Beckham and the English national team yesterday as they easily defeated Andorra 6-0. The win gives England a 7-0 record for the World Cup qualifiers and guarantees them a position for the 2010 Cup in South Africa.
David started the game for England, making it his first start for his country in over two years. He proved to be a big asset on the field, as did Wayne Rooney and Jermain Defoe, who had two goals a piece and Frank Lampard and Peter Crouch, who each picked up a single.

With this match, David received his 113th cap for England. This puts him a mere 13 games behind all-time leader Peter Shilton. If David keeps up this level of play, I see no problem in him becoming the all-time leader in caps for his country.
Here’s a video with highlights from the game:
Now with World Cup qualifying behind him, David can focus on returning to the Los Angeles Galaxy. He’s expected to be back on the field for the MLS team on July 17th, when they take on the New York Red Bulls.

David Beckham Interviewed in Kasakhstan
June 8, 2009 by Erin Balser
David Beckham is currently in Kasakhstan with the England football squad. England took on Kasakhstan yesterday in a World Cup qualifying match. David managed to squeeze in a few interviews between training and travel. I’m not entirely sure the source of this interview, but in it David talks about the fans in Kasakhstan, the hard game England played (they won 4-0), and more. Already, David is focusing on the next match - England plays Andorra in another World Cup qualifier on June 10th.
David only played the last fifteen minutes, but recieved a huge cheer from the crowd when he took the field. He instantly made a contribution when he stepped on the turf, so things are looking up for David to play a larger role for England in future games. He hopes to play until he’s at least 40, so it would be nice if he was still a key player for his country until then.
England Defeats Kasakhstan 4-0

England moved one step closer to World Cup victory as they easily defeated Kasakhstan 4-0 yesterday in a World Cup qualifier. The four goals for England were scored by Wayne Rooney, Gareth Barry, Emile Heskey and Frank Lampard.

David Beckham came off the bench for the team with only 15 minutes left in the game. When he entered the game, the crowd gave him the biggest cheer of the night as the midfielder collected his 112th cap for England.
Here’s a video with highlights from the game:
The win gave England a perfect 6-0 record in World Cup qualifying. They are in pretty good shape to make it to the 2010 Cup in South Africa. Up next is Andorra on June 10th.

Sky Sports Interviews David Beckham
June 7, 2009 by Erin Balser
David Beckham has been making the media rounds lately, doing to best to assure football fans he is excited to be returning to the Los Angeles Galaxy and dedicated to the team and to the MLS. On Friday, he sat down with Sky Sports in the UK to talk about his decision to stay with AC Milan and what he hopes to accomplish in the second half of the Galaxy season.
“When I had it in my mind to try and go on loan and to try to stay in the England team, I knew I had to stay at this level,” David said. “The only way to do that was to try and go to a big club. They don’t get much bigger than AC Milan.”
I understand why David made the decision he made, but he better make a significant contribution to MLS soccer immediately if he wants to be completely forgiven by North American fans. I’m sure that’s his goal. I’m excited to see Becks back on North American soil, that’s for sure!
David Beckham is a Great Football Player
June 5, 2009 by Erin Balser
Goal.com has been counting down the best English football players of the past year and David Beckham clocks in at lucky number 13. David gets kudos for his 110 caps for England, the second most ever for a player, his longevity and his success with Manchester United, Real Madrid AC Milan and now the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Goal.com argues that David’s 1998/99 season was the best of his career. He was with Manchester United at the time and was halfway through his six-year-stint as captain.

Goal.com has a pretty detailed analysis of David’s career, you can check it out for yourself here.
I know what you’re thinking. If David is #13 who are the twelve chaps you beat him? Unfortunately, they’ve been updating the list daily, so if you want to see who’s better than David, you’ll have to visit Goal.com regularly for the next few days.

David Beckham Blogs About England
June 4, 2009 by Erin Balser
David Beckham updated his blog yesterday, writing about the end of regular season Serie A play. He’s disappointed that AC Milan missed the playoffs, but wants them to start focusing on the Champions League, which they qualified for with their third place finish.
David is now looking forward to playing with England for their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches. England will be taking on Kazakhstan and Andorra in the next few weeks and David knows both games will be tough for England. England s currently ranked first in their division for qualifying, having a 5-0 record. Can they make it 7-0?
David also writes about how he is excited to be returning to Los Angeles and to play for the Galaxy. It will be nice to have a more stable schedule and spend time with his family as well. Milan was great, but it’s so far from Victoria and their boys.

David Beckham Children’s Books Now Available
June 4, 2009 by Erin Balser
The David Beckham Football Academy has released the line of children’s books! The series follows a few plaers at the academy and the ups and downs of being an elite young soccer player.
The Guardian wrote a humorous article about the books, imagining how they would read if the Premiership was responsible for them. The actual books are about themes that run strongly in soccer - friendship, hard work, dedication, sacrifice, sharing and success.

The first three titles - Twin Trouble, Le Football and Save the Day are now available through Amazon.co.uk. Unfrounately, the series is not yet available in North America. I have my fingers crossed that it will be soon!
