David Beckham! The Musical
The London theatre scene is abuzz with news about the latest musical–and it’s one about soccer superstar David Beckham.
“Beckham’s story is a modern-day fairytale of heroes, villains, love, Manchester United and what it means to lead your country,’’ Mark Archer, who wrote the songs for the show, told the Daily Telegraph. “His rise from obscurity to international stardom, his universally acknowledged gifts as a supreme sportsman, and his Hollywood lifestyle all have the elements of an aspirational fable.”
The play, titled Theatre of Dreams, will chronicle David’s first 33 years of his life, in song. It’s supposed to be a lighthearted, vivacious number with sample lyrics such as:
Talk about football coming home,
And then one night in Rome,
We were strong, we had grown,
And now I see Ince ready for war,
Gazza good as before,
Shearer certain to score,
And Psycho screaming.
I think seeing this play would be lots of fun–and not just because it’s about David!

This is not the first musical in recent months to be based on David Beckham’s life. There’s one in Dublin too–a satire about Victoria’s and David’s love affair.
