People has confirmed that David Beckham will make a surprise appearance at the closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics on August 24, when Beijing passes the Olympic torch onto London, who will host the games in 2012.

“David is going to be in the surprise finale,” their source says. “They always have a segment to do the handover, to showcase the next city to host the Olympics.”

David was invited to participate because he was a key player in the London bid for the games. That, and his status as the most recognizable and celebrated sportsperson from Britain makes him the perfect person to represent sport for their country.

However, David’s trip to Beijing will be quick one. He has a full Galaxy schedule and might be called up to play for England soon too!!

Have you been watching the Olympics? The opening ceremony was amazing, and I’m sure the closing ceremony will be no less spectacular!
